TRIPOLI -- Five people were killed and 13 others injured in a fresh wave of violent clashes in the western Libyan city of Zawiya, some 45 km west of the capital Tripoli, medics said Monday.

The deaths include a 10-year-old girl, and "some injured people were in severe conditions," the Medical Emergency Department said in a statement posted on its Facebook account.

Civilian homes and vehicles were also damaged in the clashes, the department said. (Libya-Clashes)

SANAA -- Rashad Al-Alimi, chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, met with United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg on Monday to discuss efforts to renew and expand the ongoing truce in Yemen, state news agency Saba reported.

In the meeting, which took place in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Al-Alimi welcomed the UN efforts to renew the truce, reaffirming his government's commitment to a "comprehensive peace approach" based on regional agreement and relevant international resolutions. (Yemen-UN-Truce)

TUNIS -- Tunisia's Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) announced that the electoral period for the legislative elections kicked off on Monday.

"During the electoral period, political advertising is prohibited, as well as the publication of the results of polls or studies in relation to the elections," the ISIE said in a statement.

The statement added that journalistic comments directly or indirectly related to the elections are also prohibited. (Tunisia-Elections)

ANKARA -- Turkish National Intelligence Organization killed a senior member of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported on Monday.

Mehmet Akyol, codenamed "Dogan Amanos", was in charge of YPG operations in Ain Issa town in the Tal Abyad district of nothern Syria's Raqqa city, the agency reported, quoting anonymous Turkish security forces.

The Turkish intelligence was following his activities against Turkish security forces in Türkiye's southern Hatay and eastern Van provinces when he joined the ranks of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the news agency reported.
