UNITED NATIONS -- UN humanitarians and partners issued a flash appeal worth 71.4 million U.S. dollars on Thursday to meet the urgent needs of Libyans suffering from devastating floods.

The funds are for 250,000 people targeted out of the 884,000 people estimated to be in need over the next three months, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The flash appeal may be updated once additional information becomes available. (UN-Libya-Flooding)

JERUSALEM -- The Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology on Thursday announced a five-year national plan to promote blue technology, or marine innovation.

The aim of the plan is to develop a broad, diverse, world-leading ecosystem and promote blue technology research, data collection, sea mapping, maritime education, and investments, the ministry said in a statement. (Israel-Marine-Innovation)

KHARTOUM -- Sudan's state mining services company said its gold production has dropped to two tons amid the ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), compared to 18 tons in 2022.

"The total gold produced by the corporate sectors reached two tons during the period from April 15 to the end of August 2023," Miqdam Khalil Ibrahim, assistant to the director general of Sudan's Mineral Resources Company, said in a statement. (Sudan-Gold-Production)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi negotiators, joined by an Omani mediation delegation, have left for the Saudi capital of Riyadh to restart ceasefire negotiations, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported on Thursday.

"In response to the Omani mediation, our negotiation team will head for Riyadh to resume truce talks," Mahdi al-Mashat, head of the Houthi political council, was quoted by the television channel as saying after meeting the Omani delegation in Sanaa. (Yemen-Ceasefire-Negotiation)
