TEHRAN (Tasnim) US President Donald Trump announced a suspension of American airstrikes in Yemen, citing what he said was a pledge from Yemeni forces to cease targeting Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea.

Donald Trump said the United States will stop its bombing campaign in Yemen, stating that Yemeni officials "have conveyed they no longer wish to continue the conflict".

Speaking at the White House alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump clarified that no formal agreement had been reached with Yemen.

"Their message was clear: they just dont want to fight," Trump claimed.

He claimed that the Yemenis agreed to stop attacks on vessels with Israeli links in exchange for a halt in US military operations.

He also signaled a forthcoming policy shift, saying, "I will have a very big announcement" ahead of his planned visit to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Yemeni authorities have not publicly responded to Trumps remarks.

The United States has carried out near-daily strikes in Yemen in recent months, resulting in hundreds of deaths.

Yemeni forces have launched retaliatory strikes on US warships in the Red Sea and beyond.

One of those attacks reportedly brought down an American F-18 fighter jet late last month.
